The greenhouse effect is a process that occurs when gases in earth's atmosphere trap the sun's heat. This process makes Earth much warmer than it would be without an atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is one of the things that makes the Earth a comfortable place to live. The greenhouse effect is like a greenhouse which is built of glass walls and glass roof, used to grow plants like tomatoes, tropical flowers. A green house in the sunlight shines into the greenhouse and warms the pants and air inside the greenhouse. At night though it is colder outside but the greenhouse remains warm because the glass walls have trapped the sun's heat.
The greenhouse effect works the same way on earth. Gases in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide traps the heat just like glass walls in a greenhouse. At night when earth's surface cools, the trapped heat keeps our earth warm and cozy. The production of carbon dioxide in large amounts into the atmosphere does result in trapping more heat than the required amount which is called a greenhouse effect.
Consequences of greenhouse effect
1) Thawing the glacial masses
The percentage of radiation that the earth's surface reflects or returns to the atmosphere, a global rise in sea level and release of large methane columns.
2) Floating of islands and coastal cities
The global rise in sea level will affect the islands and the coastal cities. During the period of 1901-2010 the global average sea level rose 19 c.m's
3) Hurricanes will be more devastating
The greenhouse effect does not cause these extreme calamities but it does increase their intensity. Hurricanes are connected with the sea temperature.
4) Migration of species
Many animal species will be forced to migrate in order to survive because of the increase in temperature.
5) Desertion of fertile areas
Impacts on the process of the soil degradation and it contributes to the desertification of the most arid areas on the planet.
6) Impact on agriculture and livestock
The global warming changes in temperature and seasons are influencing the proliferation of insects, invasive species and diseases that can affect crops. The same is affecting the livestock.
Global warming:
The globe is heating up. Both land and oceans are warmer now than they were when record keeping began and global warming is rising the temperature upwards. Simply, the rise of heat is global warming.
The greenhouse effect plays an important role in global warming where the greenhouse gases are released in greater numbers. The gases like carbon dioxide and other gases keep the earth warm due to industrialization, automobile, burning fuels in a greater never leads in release of gases like carbon dioxide and other gases in large amounts resulting in the globe becoming warmer than what it requires resulting in melting in ice, ocean disruption, extreme weather etc.
