"HOW TO STAND OUT AS AN APPLICANT"

Step 1: Know thy self

Your application represents you. Think of just 5 words to describe you. Hard isn't it? But, that is the game. We lawyers have to be precise and concise in our pleadings right? Same with our application. Develop that art of being precise and to the point.

Step 2: Research about the Employer

Nowadays it is not hard to find basic information about an organization you want to work for, on the internet. Moreover, the job post itself contains a paragraph, which explains who they are ? Read that para 5-10 times or untill you get the idea about what are their practice areas.

Step 3: What they need ? Do you have it in you?

The job description section will explain what they are looking for and the responsibilities of the job. This is the moment of truth and nothing but truth. If you possess the abilities they are looking for, then go ahead. But, if you do not possess one of the abilities, don't give up just yet. Are you willing to learn that trait? Showcase that in your application. But never lie to impress the employers. It will always backfire.

Step 4: Pour your personality into the application.

Many employers ask you to submit a statement of purpose or cover letter. It may seem like extra work, but it is a great opportunity to tell them about you, other than what you have done ( which is in your CV and Resume).

The art of writing statement of purpose is simple, try to explain the following things in one page.

(A) Why you chose Law ?

(B) What are the common interests of you and the employer?

(For example, if they are an IP firm, show your interests in IP law and highlight your marks scored in the subject)

(C) Why would you be a good fit for the job?

(D) Trick to impress - If you can convey the above points in an articulate manner with a punchy line, you are in !!

Step 5: Do your own template

As employers, they receive a hundred applications for one post and in the pile of papers, if you want to stand out, do not use the standard template available on the internet. Making your own template is easy, and it is an opportunity to showcase your talent as well.

CONCLUSION:

"Destitutus ventis, remos adhibe" is a Latin proverb, which means "if the wind will not serve, take to the oars."

Sometimes, all you need is a push from an external force. But, most of the time, it is your inner force which wakes you and kindle the fire so bright for your successful journey.
