"HOW TO PREPARE FOR SEMESTER EXAMS"

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

Hola! Budding Lawyers. Semester Exams are coming up, its time to dust off the heavy Law Books and brush up your memory about the concerned subjects. As we all lost touch in studying in the past 5 months, it is pretty difficult to get back in the game just like that. But, it is very important to get back in the game now than be disqualified once and for all. Here I give you, 5 TIPS to do just that.

1. GET SORTED :

Most students don't have access to study materials due to Covid-19 Pandemic. First, contact your Lecturers or friends and ask them to guide you regarding study materials. To study well, it is necessary to have proper study materials. Moreover, Law being dynamic in nature, even the old editions are a curse when it comes to final exams. So, first thing to do would be to collect all the study materials.

2. START WITH YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECT/TOPIC :

Even though it seems like you have to study the tougher subject first and finish it off, take my advice and start with favourite subject. Because, as we have lost touch of studying, it might be boring and you'd feel unwilling to study the tougher subject at first. Another benefit would be, you'll finish faster the subjects you like, and there will be plenty of time left to understand tougher subjects.

3. STAY AWAY FROM DISTRACTIONS :

Distractions are different from person to person. But, most of us escape from background noises and distractions by means of headphones and music. Music also helps to relax the mind. Music can be of any genre, you can trick your brain and bribe the soothing songs it likes for studying continuously. I wouldn't insist you to try this if you live in a peaceful environment/ is exposed to nature. When you study a concept try to look at the greenery and memorize the concept. This not only makes your study interesting but also soothes your eyes.

4. WRITE WHEN YOU FEEL LAZY TO JUST READ :

Writing is a proven method to increase your memory. Also, it helps to improve our handwriting. When you have less time, writing serves you well. Most of us have to attend offline exams which requires us to write faster. This way, you can study faster and practice writing at the same time. Works as a double life saver!

5. ENTERTAINMENT BHI ZAROORI HAI :

Many have the habit of leaving all social interactions and entertainments during exam times. It is a good practice but, when you really don't want to sacrifice your "chill time" and forcing your brain to study, it might hate the process of studying. Also in the past few months, we have been addicted to binge watch. For those who cannot study effectively without a break once in a while to socialize or to watch another episode, I would suggest to watch something related to the subject you are appearing for. Nowadays, series and movies about all field of study is available. This way, you entertain your brain and meanwhile gain some extra knowledge on the subject matter.

For example, suppose you are studying a concept of 'contributory negligence' of 'Tort Law'. You can watch the clip on contributory negligence case of 'Suits'.

Also, there are lots of YouTube video lectures on various Law concepts. You can watch such videos and revise your studies too.

Therefore, do what you have to do to make your brain listen to your commands. Apply ADR's win-win formula in studying.

All the best for the final exams folks!

Regards,

Student of the BAR
